6.5 Months–Where Did the Time Go?!

So I decided to take a short little break from the blog.  Just a tiny little recess during which I would take care of things at home and at work.  Just a quick breather.  So surely you can imagine my surprise when I looked  at the date of my last post and realized it has been six and a half months.  Say whaaat???

So where in the world did the time go?  Let’s take a look back and I’ll catch you up on the past half of a year.

Potty training:  Did you know that the number one way to get your toddler to pee his pants is to sit down at the computer and start typing?  Yep!  I am pretty sure it is a proven fact.  Look it up.  It’s science.  So needless to say, I chose to go computer-free and have less accidents to tend to.

This guy.  This is the potty-training culprit.  I guess when you are this cute, you can get away with it.

Work: Have I ever mentioned that I am a fourth grade teacher?  If not, now you know.  When I am not obsessing about travel and dreaming about trips, I am in the classroom with my 30 little scholars doing awesome things like conjugating verbs and finding equivalent fractions.  Don’t be jealous!  😉  Anyway, the school year started in August and I found myself up to my eyeballs in work.

Even More Work: For the past 5 years, I have shared a 50% contract, so I only teach 2.5 days a week, and my partner teaches the days that I am off.  This has been a great way for me to balance work and time with my own two little kiddos, and I have enjoyed the experience.  But I decided this year was the year to start easing back toward full time, so I began a 60% contract, 3 days a week.  Then, when my partner needed some time off, I ended up taking over the full position for a while.  So any time that I would have been here suddenly disappeared.

Weekends Away:  For my hubby’s 40th, we headed down to San Diego to catch a Padres game and hang out with friends.  We also made it out to the desert for a little family getaway.  It sure is nice to live close to so many great destinations!

Montana: In October, I was lucky enough to tag along with my sister-in-law to see my niece in Montana.  She has been attending the University of Montana in Missoula, and it was a great visit to a beautiful state.  I will need to post more about that later.

Disneyland: in November, we took our annual family vacation, and this time we decided that our destination would be the happiest place on Earth.  That’s right, Disneyland!  We stayed at the beautiful Grand Californian Hotel for four nights and spent three days at the parks.  This was a great time with our whole family together, but we were certainly exhausted by the end.  I have to say that Disney can take it out of you more than most other vacations.

Ranch Time: A few months ago, my sister invited me to come riding with her at her friend’s ranch.  I went and was instantly hooked.  I have always loved horses and my sister is kind of awesome, so hanging out at the ranch makes for a great way to spend a few hours.  I try to get out there every week or two for some quality time with my favorite sister and the horses.  Bliss!

Travel Planning: I’ve been working on details for two upcoming trips.  The first is a summer trip to Scotland (YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!).  This trip has been in the making for over a year, and now that it is getting closer, I am just twitching with anticipation.  C’mon summer, hurry up!  The second trip we are working on is our family vacation in November.  After much deliberation, we decided on Puerto Rico.  If you know me at all, you know that PR is my weakness–I just can’t stay away.  And now we can share the island we love with the rest of the family who have never been.  I am so excited!

And, well, that about covers my blogging drought.  Now I have a week’s vacation ahead of me and I figure it is time to get back onto the blog and try to get back into the swing of things here.  I’m not making any promises of consistent reading or posting, but I can sure try.  🙂

    1. Busy for sure. But since the pace probably won’t stop, I am just going to have to commit a certain amount of time a week to getting on here for reading & writing each week–I miss it. And as for Scotland, yes, plan a trip. The more I research my trip, the more I am sucked in by its beauty and history.

  1. Whee! You are back and have a whole lot to write about eh? Sounds like the last year leading up to the new has been packed with adventure (potty training) and lovely travel. Love the photos and the thought of all the splendid stories waiting for the fab four in Scotland and Puerto Rico *hugs xx

    1. Oy, potty training. It really is the pits! It’s a good thing kids are so cute… 😛 As for Scotland, we are super jerks–kids are staying home for this one, poor little guys. But they will indeed make it to Puerto Rico to see the sights and frolic in the waves. And how are you guys doing??? Big ol’ hugs back at ya! ❤

      1. They will always remember that mummy and daddy left us behind for Scotland 😛 Kidding. I am sure they will miss you but it is good that you two will get some loverly time together in the loverly landscape of that beautiful country. And then Puerto Rico awaits you all, how fantastic. Are you guys planning on doing lots of hikes?
We are doing alright, thanks for asking, Kristyn. A bit of rest on the travelling front but should pick up in April. We are yet to make solid plans for this year. xx

      2. Haha, it’s better than if we took them to Scotland and then left them THERE 😉

Yes, I am definitely wanting to do some hiking. Our only real plan at the moment is in Skye where we will take a hike/walk to the Fairy Pools and then a real hike in Quiraing. I am hoping that I can sucker Cam and our friends into some extra hikes along the way.

I’m glad you and Adi are doing well. Nothing wrong with staying put for a bit–makes the next trip even more exciting, I think. 🙂 How is Jersey treating you?

      3. It is okay, the days are lengthening and all this brightness is lovely. You are right, the excitement shall build up like popcorn in a pressure cooker when we get going anywhere.

Hiking and more hiking, the Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, the fairy pools, the many castles… you will be in heaven. Oh do think of me when you are there and give it all a big hug from me. If you can get a coo back, I shall not complain. Plus he/she would make a great gift for the boys 😉 xx

      4. It is definitely nice when the short days of winter start to grow longer. I crave the sunlight . I like the popcorn popping—that about sums up the anticipation! 🍿

I will gladly give your love to Scotland, even going so far as hugging a trail or two so long as the ticks pinky swear to leave me alone when I do 😉

      5. Haven’t you heard of the pinky-swearing ticks? They come equipped with pinkies AND the other 4 digits as well. 😛 And oh the midges, I am anticipating their overwhelming “love.” I am unfortunately a magnet for biting insects, so I will surely be covered in bug spray. And maybe long-sleeves. And quite possibly my own personal netting.

      6. Hmmm, maybe I was confusing pinkies with lyme disease–I know ticks have at least one of those…??? Either way, they just give me the heebie jeebies. I remember one day when Henry was a baby and our dog came in the house with a tick. Oh man was I mad that this tick had the audacity to catch a ride into my house. And as for the bee keeper’s suit, I am all over that. Easy and stylish 🙂

      7. Bring on the suit, social media will swoon over you. Hearts shall plop. I have heard of lyme disease but have not had the opportunity of seeing it up close. Naturally I am dim on that front but the sight of ticks would make give me the jeebies too. I hope you ticked it off properly. Boorish tick!

      8. I am not sure I am ready to be abuzz on social media. I wonder if perhaps there is a more incognito midge-repellent getup for me. Maybe I can borrow a batsuit and cowl (surely no social media sensation there). Ugh, one of my neighbors actually contracted lyme disease and it wreaked havoc on her health. As for the tick, I am sure Cam used a good tick removal procedure (not that I would know since I grabbed the baby and scurried to the other end of the house)
